Tourism
Haliburton County, long known as Central Ontario’s playground, has a much diversified range of tourism products. From the internationally known Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve ….. the arts community ….. Studio Tours ….. Geo-Caching Capital of Ontario, Haliburton has it all. Located 2 hours north of The Greater Toronto Area and a couple of hours west of Ottawa, The Haliburton Highlands is strategically located to fulfill the needs of millions of Ontarians. While tourism activity has been growing globally, Canada and Ontario’s market share has been diminishing, impacted by SARS, 9 -11, a strong Canadian dollar and rising fuel prices. Yet, in Haliburton, tourism has surpassed forestry for top spot as the County’s main economic sector and local statistics report 3 consecutive double digit year-to-year increases in visitors/travellers to the County’s Information Centres. Locally, numerous sector organizations provide meaningful networking opportunities for research, collaborative marketing and product packaging. We in the Economic Development Department, along with industry leaders will work with you to become a part of The Haliburton Highlands. |
