Business Retention & Expansion
It is commonly accepted that the most significant employment expansion in any community comes from within the existing business base. In fact, some sources place that number as high as 80%. "Small Business" in Ontario is the largest employment sector, which is why the County of Haliburton's Office of Economic Development has initiated several programs to feel the pulse of the local business community and to understand impediments to their growth and to gather business intelligence as to what is needed to encourage business expansion. One such initiative is the Corporate Calling Program which gathers information on the needs of local businesses. Many services are available from the OED to assist existing businesses such as;
- market and economic indicator research
- export information
- service and product sourcing
- site selection assistance
- investment marketing and promotion programs
- advice on government business assistance programs
If you are interested in any of these services, or would like to establish or expand your business in Haliburton County, please contact the Department. No fees or commissions are accepted. All inquiries will be respected with confidentiality.
Corporate Calling Program
In 2007, the County of Haliburton's Department of Economic Development commenced a "Corporate Calling Program". The program involves on-site corporate visitations with the owner/manager of the firm. Essentially, the Corporate Call is a dialogue between the business and the County during which topics such as; type of business; date of business commencement; date business located in Haliburton; number of employees (F/T, P/T & Contract); needed services or products that could be supplied locally; do they require any particular assistance (Expansion/Space requirements; partnership or joint venture info; business development assistance; export assistance or other government assistance) and willingness to assist in "Ambassador Program". Through this program, the OED hopes to learn of local businesses that have received recognition from either peer groups or from external agencies recognizing business excellence as well as understanding the pulse of the local business community.
